What is the YKS Exam System?
The Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) is the university entrance exam system applied in Turkey. It consists of two sessions: the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and the Field Proficiency Test (AYT).
TYT Score Calculation
TYT consists of 5 different subject sections: Turkish (40 questions), Social Sciences (20 questions), Mathematics (40 questions), Science (20 questions) — 120 questions in total.
Net calculation: Every 4 wrong answers cancel out 1 correct answer.
AYT Score Calculation
AYT produces 4 different score types: Numerical (SAY), Verbal (SÖZ), Equal Weight (EA), and Language (DİL). Which score type applies depends on the student's chosen field.
How Does Wrong Answer Penalty Work?
In YKS, every 4 wrong answers erase 1 correct answer. Therefore, guessing randomly on sections with fewer questions may create a disadvantage.
