Info

Buffer solutions are systems that resist changes in pH. This tool calculates the pH of weak acid–conjugate base pairs using the Henderson–Hasselbalch equation: pH = pKa + log([A-]/[HA]) Suitable for chemistry courses and laboratory calculations.

Henderson–Hasselbalch Equation
  • Buffer solution: contains a weak acid + conjugate base.
  • pH = pKa + log([A-]/[HA])
  • Strongest buffering occurs when [A-] = [HA].
  • The system is most stable when pH ≈ pKa.
Valid for dilute aqueous solutions and classical buffer assumptions.
