Work – Power – Time (P = W / t) Calculator

Calculates work, power, or time using the formula P = W / t.

Tutorial / How it works →

Info

This tool calculates the unknown in the fundamental physics relationship P = W / t — finding work (energy), power, or time from the other two values. Definitions: - Work (W): Energy transferred by a force over a distance. Unit: Joule (J). - Power (P): Rate of doing work per unit time. Unit: Watt (W). - Time (t): Duration over which work is performed. Unit: second (s). Core formulas: - P = W / t (power) - W = P · t (work) - t = W / P (time) SI units: - W (work / energy): Joule [J] - P (power): Watt [W] - t (time): second [s] Note: For large energy values, the result is also shown in kWh.

Work – Power – Time Relationship
  • Power is the amount of work done per unit time: P = W / t.
  • From this, W = P · t and t = W / P are also derived.
  • The 'Watt' rating on appliances shows how much energy the device can consume per unit time.
  • 1 kWh = 3.6 × 10⁶ J, approximately 3,600,000 Joules of energy.
This tool calculates average power. In real life, power may vary over time; constant power is assumed here.
