Wavelength – Frequency – Energy (Light) + Chart Calculator

Enter wavelength (λ) or frequency (f). Calculate the frequency and photon energy of light, and view the result on a chart.

Info

The fundamental relation for light (electromagnetic wave): c = λ · f - c: speed of light (299 792 458 m/s — exact) - λ (lambda): wavelength (metres) - f: frequency (Hz) Photon energy: E = h · f - h: Planck constant (6.62607015×10⁻³⁴ J·s — exact) What does this tool do? 1) Given λ or f, it finds the other quantity. 2) It gives energy in both Joules and eV. 3) It plots the wavelength–frequency relationship: As wavelength increases, frequency decreases (inverse proportion). Note: - The speed of light in a vacuum is used. - In other media (water/glass) the speed decreases; a more advanced model is needed for those cases.

Wavelength – Frequency – Energy Relationship
This calculator uses the speed of light in a vacuum. In media such as water or glass, the speed of light decreases and the wavelength changes while the frequency remains constant.
